Awafi Kosher Restaurant

Awafi is Singapore's only kosher restaurant, run within the Jewish community centre at 24 Waterloo Street, next to the historic Maghain Aboth Synagogue. It is glatt kosher, under the supervision of Rabbi Mordechai Abergel and the community's kashrut authority, and it serves locals, business travellers and visitors who keep kosher.

The kitchen is best known for Israeli and Middle Eastern food: falafel with hummus and pita, mezze platters, lamb kibbeh and Israeli salad, along with fish and chips and dishes drawn from Indian, Chinese and Western cooking. There are plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices, which makes it useful for mixed groups with different dietary needs. Friday night Shabbat dinners are offered, with reservations recommended, and the restaurant closes on Saturdays and Jewish holidays.

Awafi takes delivery and pick-up orders through its own online store, with no minimum order. The restaurant is on the sixth floor of the building, and there is a security check at the entrance, so allow a few extra minutes when collecting. Mealtimes are set, with lunch in the early afternoon and dinner from 6.30pm, so check the online store for the current collection windows. Bencoolen and Bras Basah MRT stations are a short walk away. It suits anyone who needs certified kosher food in Singapore, as well as vegetarians in the Bugis and Bras Basah area.
