Xi Men Jie is a homegrown chain of Taiwanese street food kiosks, named after Ximending, Taipei's well-known shopping and street food district. The brand has around nine outlets across Singapore, from Westgate and The Rail Mall to Thomson Plaza and Yishun, and this branch is in the basement of Oasis Terraces at 681 Punggol Drive.
Braised pork rice is the dish most people come for, and the menu also covers lu rou over ramen, three-cup chicken, stewed beef rice, chicken cutlet curry rice and a long list of fried rice. Mee sua comes with oyster, clam, shredded chicken or crab meat, and snacks include cheese onion egg pancakes, roasted Taiwanese sausage, cucumber with spicy garlic dressing and salted egg dishes. House-made drinks are a big part of the offer, from brown sugar boba milk tea to fresh milk teas with pudding and grass jelly. Most items have been priced under S$10, and the chain is not halal-certified.
The Punggol outlet takes delivery and pick-up orders through Xi Men Jie's own online store. Delivery needs a minimum order of S$30 and has been free for orders of S$60 and above, so it pays to order for the household or the office in one go. Pick-up at Punggol Drive suits Punggol residents who want an inexpensive dinner on the way home.
